Drop-in Café

Places of Welcome - “Drop-in Café”

The “Drop-in Café” is open on a Tuesday morning from 9.00am until 10.30am in the Community Room at Hope Hamilton School. We have signed up to the National network of “Places of Welcome”.

There are five guiding principles which all Places of Welcome agree to – known as the ‘5 Ps’. They were developed by people running Places of Welcome and it is these guiding principles that hold the network together.

Place:

A hospitable and accessible building, open at the same time every week – for us this generally means term-time only as we share the building with the School.

People:

Open to everyone regardless of their circumstances or situation, and staffed by volunteers, a group of people who are committed to making it happen.

Presence:

A place where people actively listen to one another.

Provision :

Free refreshments (at least a cup of tea and a biscuit) are on offer along with basic local information.

Participation :

Recognition that every person coming to a Place of Welcome will bring talents, experiences and skills that they might be willing to share locally.
We also provide some toys for small children to play with, and recent activities have included instructions on knitting and sewing – with a sewing machine available and a very creative instructor to inspire the learning of new skills.
Please come and join us if you are able to – and help us build community in the wonderful district of Hamilton.
